Do You Love Me?

"Do you love Me?"
Was Your piercing question
I immediately answered You
"Of course Lord, You know I do".

Again You asked, "Do you love Me?"
I quickly answered "Yes!"
Thinking of the many blessings
And the graciousness sent.

Again You asked, "Do you love Me?"
I hesitated for a moment
I thought about the sufferings ahead
I answered, "Maybe Lord".

Again You asked, "Do you love Me?"
I did not answer You
I was thinking of my losses
But instead I said, "Do You?"

Again You asked, "Do you love Me?"
I tried not to hear You
I mumbled and said angrily
"I do not even know You!"

Again You asked lovingly, "Do you love Me?"
But this time I was silent
I was too embarrassed to answer You
But You said, "My child, I love you."

Again You asked, "Do you love Me?"
And I raised my head to heaven
With tears falling from my eyes
I said, "Oh Lord, I'm sorry. Forgive me."

Again You asked, "Do you love Me?"
This time with a commitment
I smiled and looked at You
And said, "with all my heart I do."
