2021: A year in review

This year is one of those years where it left a mark on me and a year that can never be forgotten.

April 2021: MECQ again due to the spread of the Delta Variant. Decided to quit boarding house and just Vios when its my turn at the office.

May 2021: I signed the MOA with Human Heart Nature and finally became a Hub Owner! Purchased P54,000.00 worth of products. There is no minimum or required purchase per month. MOA is valid for 1 year.

June 2021: Noy was isolated because his officemate tested positive of Covid. He also had symptoms. Was so scared but kept it cool . We got him tested after a couple of days and he was negative thank God! But he already spent 2 weeks on quarantine.

July 2021: Mang was hospitalized due to stomachache. For several days she was in pain until she finally gave in to be hospitalized. Noy was the one who was there with her. Laboratory results was that she has UTI and gallstones. But Doc Martin says it has no cause to worry since the stones are small. 4 days in Cabahug. Also learned that SSS Molave will be closed.

September 2021: Noy again has symptoms of Covid and this time he had difficulty in breathing. RTPCR njud and X-ray. He has pneumonia but results showed him negative again. But doctors treated him as positive to be sure. Isolated at the Isolation Room since no vacancy due to the rise of cases. Hospitals running out of Oxygen. Although Noy was negative but doctors isolated him for 21 days.

Mang's stomach hurt again and we did another round of Ultrasound but this time we consulted Doc Andy Espanola, a Laparoscopic Surgeon at Jamelarin. Said mang needs operation ASAP. But mang does not want. Gave us medicines for the meantime.

October 2021: Mang's stomache hurt again. This time she was in so much pain that she was rushed to the hospital. Oct. 5, 2021, she had an open surgery because there were so many stones. Operation started 10am and ended at 430pm. I was panicking and was very afraid. Spent 10 days in the hospital because she had complications like Pneumonia and Amoeba. Sionny accompanied me there because I had to do all stuff for mang and I couldn't do it by myself due to her weight. Our bill amounted to 350k. Borrowed 250k from Fr. Rene.

November 2021: We go to the hospital weekly for follow-ups. Noy and I joined the SocCom Team of the Diocese. Me as writer, and noy as photographer. Received news that SSS Molave will be until Dec. 31, 2021 only.

December 2021: Sir James died due to heart attack. King went to Pampanga for her graduation from LGA. Two days after she arrived (Dec.18) she was not feeling well. Swab on Dec 27 and she tested positive for Covid. Bleak Christmas and New Year since we have to do distancing. Good thing that they allowed her home quarantine. She will finish quarantine on Jan 7.

Missing you

Was just randomly scribbling this while thinking of him. I wasn't able to put the date when I did made this. But here it is.

I miss you like I miss the rain
And the sound it makes on my window pane
I miss you like I miss the sun
When summer has left and gone

I miss you in the cold dark night
Pull me close dear and hold me tight
I miss your warm embrace, your sweet kiss
you make me feel safe, oh what a bliss.

Hero

Dear,
For the 2 years that we have been together, I think you know me well enough to be able to deduce that I can best express myself yhrough writing than is speaking. Dear, i am so thankful that I have you.

To you who made me laugh,
To you who made me cry
Thank you for all the times you were there for me
That made life easier to get by

To you my protector,
To you my sweet and thoughtful gentleman
Thank you for your patience
and for accepting me just as I am

To you my bestfriend,
To you my companion
Thank you for your strong arms
And for the shoulder I can lean on.

To you whom I love
To you whom I adore
Thank you for loving me
And for always being my Hero

Dear

Dear,

This is for you who conquered me
Who guides me through but also lets me be.
Thank you for being my comfort and my strong arms,
With you beside me, I feel no harm.

Thank you dear for being my bestfriend, my voice of reason,
For leading the way whatever the season.
Thank you for your support, for your cheer,
For your care and concern, I feel special dear.

When I can't sleep I think of you,
Holding me close the whole night thru
Oh how I love your warm protective embrace,
Strong yet soft, the stress, oh how they erase.

Your kiss is gentle, passionate, firm and sweet
You excite me dear whenever our lips meet.
I love the way you pull me close to you,
And the moments when we become one and not two.

Thank you for being my sunshine in the rain
Always making me smile even in pain.
Thank you dear for being strong,
For not letting me go, for holding on.

Thank you dear for everything you've done.
For your patience and understanding that do not wan
I feel so grateful, thank you for loving me true
With all that's in my heart, Dear, I love you.

Your Dear

Defying Gravity

I realized that I haven't really written anything yet regarding the ending of the past two relationships I had last year. The writing of this is necessary of course for when I become old and wrinkled, and my memories fail me, I can read this and have a good laugh. And weird though it may seem but I find myself grinning when I recall them now.

To begin with, the first one just disappeared. Oh yes, we were happy together one weekend but the week after that, he was nowhere to be found. (I think this was triggered when he accompanied me to a christening of Ann and Edwin's daughter at Springland and some of my team mates in SFC were there. Anyway, this is only guesswork since that was the last time we were together). We are friends now of course and I do know some of the happenings in his life but for the record, he has never yet explained to me the reason for his cold feet. Although I don't need one already, but a lot of my friends said that he chickened out on me and realized that he couldn't cope up with "my" standard. Why? Because according to them, I was way superior to him in all aspects - in the brain department, the status in life, and the wide social circle. Dixie said that it seemed to her as if I was a "dream" for him and that when he realized that he couldn't match up to his "dream", he became inferior and so disappeared. Some said that he couldn't get over his being a "striker" of my father and still somehow thinks that he is merely a servant.

Growing Up

Wrote this a month after I came home to Pagadian from college. There were many realizations, and this was one. This is specially dedicated to my true friends- May, Sha, Carol, Steph, Jenie, Nino and Vincent.

I have been staring at the wall for a couple of minutes now and I can't seem to find or decide on what to write. I feel so many emotions in my heart and I think about a lot of things to make me undecided on a certain topic. It seem queer to finally understand and realize that a friend of yours for years now is really very different from you. And I have made that realization with my true friends.

When we were still in High School, life seemed to be very smooth and worries were nothing at all. Our friendship was as strong as steel and whenever one cries, the others empathize. We didn't have arguments because we were of the same mind. There were no misunderstandings because each one perfectly understands the other. All have the same, if similar likes and dislikes.

But how wrong I was to think that! It takes years, distance, experience, and environment to make you realize that you are completely different from your friends, no matter how true and tested they are.

Choices

When I was young, I always thought that I have no say in any matter because God had already mapped out my path. That all I have to do is to listen close to Him for He will tell me what to do, where to go, what to act, and what to say. I imagined that God is some unreachable Being that dictates people of the courses of their actions.

But I was awfully wrong. I forgot to remember that God loved us so much that He gave us free will and choices. God made the earth so rich and bountiful that we will have many options and not just be resigned to one category. He gave us the earth and all its contents (people including) for us to enjoy.

Forces of Nature

When I was in college, at one of our bonding moments at Mindpro, my good friend Rieshia and I made up a list of the "Romantic Moments" we would like to experience with the person we love. Top on my list is being stranded on a shelter during a downpour. I completely forgot about that list until very recently when it was God who actually reminded me of it. And the Lord could really cook up a love story because He did get us stranded not just once but three times during our first time together.

You see, I went to Zamboanga to facilitate a household heads workshop during the SEAL Weekend of the SFC Zamboanga City and Zamboanga Sibugay. I was asked to do the said workshop a month before the schedule but I did not commit because of the very reason that he is at Zamboanga and that for sure, if their tactics would give them passes, he would want to accompany me. I do not like that I will be the one to go to him. What I really wanted was for him to come home for me. But days before the SEAL Weekend, I was forced to make a decision because the three full time workers were already bombarding me with pleas.

Level Up

Imagine how a simple word can suddenly alter the course of your lifeboat.

It all started with that word, and now things are different.

Early this month, he asked me if he could escort me "hangtod-hangtod" (forever and ever). I was taken aback and I honestly analyzed his statement. I told him innocently that "hangtod-hangtod" is too long that when I get married, I'm sure my husband will not agree to him escorting me and that automatically, he would become my escort then.

He laughed and told me that I finally got what he meant. I was taken aback again but this time, I laughed comprehensibly, gathered my wits about me and told him that "hangtod-hangtod" is way up there already and we're not even on the first level yet. He acknowledged that even one fourth of the stage isn't reached yet. So I asked him if he would like to upgrade our current level and he hurriedly replied with: "How do I level up?"

A Different Tune

For two weeks now, I have been in constant communication with a friend. He is a policeman on training at Zamboanga. I first met him the summer of last year when I went there to take a Specialized Exam. My father sent him ahead to my sisters' boarding house to prepare the place for my stay. That time, he was still a striker of my dad - meaning that he was on the process of applying and while waiting for all those results, he stays with my father and becomes like his secretary/errand boy. He waited for me and when I arrived at the place, he just handed me the keys and left. (In the end though I went with my office mates and stayed at the hotel.)

I met him again last November when I went to Zamboanga to attend my youngest sister's 18th birthday and at the same time, spend my remaining 2 days Forced Leave.  This time, I was with my whole family and we stayed at Mercedes the entire period. We became acquaintances then but weren't that much on speaking terms yet. He meanwhile was already on his last remaining days as a striker, having passed all the exams and just waiting for December 1st to officially start his career as a policeman.

Seasons of Love

Love season is here once again and even though that particular emotion has become overused and abused over time, it still remains the most mysterious and sought after feeling. Men have written countless prose and poetry regarding the subject and the many disputes and dilemmas attributed to it are innumerable. Of course, what man does not desire such a thing? Only a fool would choose isolation from humanity. But even so, a fool also sometimes seeks attention and therefore unknowingly lets slip that he is in dire need of love as well.

To love and be loved is most fulfilling. One's life becomes meaningful and colorful if he has someone to share his achievements and failures with. A burden does not become a burden if another person is there to help carry the weight. And bliss doubles if someone is there to laugh with.

Lost in Translation

Funny when you don't heed to directions and in the end, you end up lost instead. Tatay told me the exact address but didn't pay attention anymore when I heard that it was just along National High School. But which national high school? Sta. Maria or Sta. Lucia? He wasn't replying so I decided to go for Sta. Lucia. I'm confident it was there anyway. However, when I got there, the streets were  peaceful and It didn't look like someone's having a wake. Finally, I decided to ask a resident:

Lea: Maayong gabie. Nong, mangutana unta ko. Asa dapit ila Soriano?
Manong: Didto ra dapit sa Elementary. Ngano man diay unta day?
Lea: Aw...mag funeral service man gud unta mi.
Manong: (shocked) Ha? namatay si Soriano? Pila na ka adlaw?
Lea: Wla ra ba ko kabalo manong kay wala ko kaila ana niya...
Manong: Namatay na si Soriano? Kita pa man ko adto niya...kanus-a lang kaha siya namatay day?
Lea: (smile is fading and confidence is dwindling now) Wala ra ba jud ko kabalo nong...Pro didto ra man sa elementary dapit nu? sulay lang nko adto didto. Salamat kaayo...

Birthday

6am. The alarm rang. I opened my eyes and saw the shocked expression on May's face. A loud cry of "Daoy! Nasakpan nuon ko!". I laughed so hard. She grabbed the cake from the table, lit the candle and sang the Happy Birthday tune. I blew the candle and hugged her tight. She asked to me make a wish and I laughingly and loudly said: "Maka uyab!". She sat beside me on the bed laughing but grumbling at the same time. That darn clock was such a spoiler. Why did it turn on just when she was about to surprise me?

May then gave me my birthday present - a cellphone accessory with my name on it. Explained that there were no longer any letter E available so she replaced the E with a star. Used the present immediately. Further inquiry revealed that she had also bought similar trinkets for the rest of the barkada.

To be or not to be

Just last month, I didn't have a single clue what I would like to do this year now that I have a lot of free times. But all that has changed somehow. Still so very early in the year yet the wind is blowing differently already and as the days pass, I am more drawn to this new idea: to study law.

This began as an afterthought when I shared with my siblings the changes in my schedule. When asked what I would do with the time I have, I casually said that I would like to continue studying. Odd it may seem to some, but I missed school. I had been neglecting my masters ever since I was assigned at Ipil. But try hard as I might, there was no burning desire to continue it yet although I only need about three more semesters to be able to finish it. And even if I do finish my masters in English, it wouldn't help me much for it isn't related to the present job that I have. So I thought of law and was thrilled. And that spark that started feebly is now becoming a fire.

The Change

Been reading voraciously again. Ever since my last event (Dedication/ Christmas Party) as part of the Creative Team, I now have time for myself to consume in whatever ways I wished it to be consumed. Since then, I didn't have any more meetings with the team and haven't even seen any one of them. I haven't been out at night as well and just been lounging in our sala watching movies or reading.

Surprisingly, I'm enjoying it. It's like taking a make-up class on rest and being lazy, which I know lots of disciplinarians would raise their eyebrows at. Since I am more on the workaholic type, laziness is taboo and kind of alien to me. But so far, so good.

Anyway, the team will be reorganized and the members that will compose it are those that were chosen by the leaders themselves. Some of the old staff may yet still be chosen but in my case, I know that I won't be a part anymore. I have served well and now its time for change .

For Kids Only

Yes, I admit, I’m still a kid. I’m already 25 years old, yet I still enjoy watching cartoons and if given the choice between a soap opera and a Disney movie, I will choose the latter without second thoughts.

To prove my point, I have a collection of all Disney cartoons soundtracks. And worst, I memorize them all - from Fairy Godmother’s "Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo" ” to Rafiki’s "Eupendi" or Baloo in "Bare Necessities".

I can sing along Genie in "Prince Ali" or Sebastian in "Under the Sea" no matter how fast the beat is or that the words seem to come out like gibberish already.

I am also fascinated with Fantasy movies like "The Never Ending Story", "Willow""Pans Labyrinth" and of course, "Lord of the Rings" and "Harry Potter". Aside from that, movies like "The King and I", "My Fair Lady" and "Fiddler on the Roof", are my favorites as well.

Lately, I have been watching "Pippi Longstocking" on Youtube and it brought back a flood of memories. I can still remember my awe when I saw Pippi with her 2 friends cleaning the house wearing those big brushes which they use as skates. I tried it when I was a kid but was sadly disappointed and puzzled why I didn't move a single inch.

Letters to Juliet

It has been a very long time since I became so engrossed in a movie that I also cried with the characters. This movie specially touched my heart because an hour before I watched this film, a friend of mine told me about a major decision he was making.

Listening to him, I felt like Suzanne hearing Wayne talk about enlisting in the war. My emotions were mixed: I was afraid, yet happy for him and at the same time very sad. But I also knew that I have to be brave and set aside any feeling for the greater good.

Sophie's reply to Claire's letter talks about taking the chance while you still have it. There are no rewinds in our lives. What happened yesterday will never happen again tomorrow. Every opportunity is unique in itself. But sometimes, and very rarely does it happen, that Fate gives us another chance in order to right a wrong, make straight what is crooked, expose what has been hidden, say the unutterable and to finally surrender to the inevitable.

I ask myself then- would I have the courage when it finally comes? If Fate did give us that chance, would we take the risk?

"What" and "If" are two words as non-threatening as words can be. But put them together side by side and they have the power to haunt you for the rest of your life.

What if? What if? What if?

I don't know how your story ended, but if what you felt then was true love, then it's never too late. If it was true then, why wouldn't it be true now? You need only the courage to follow your heart.

I don't know what a love like Juliet feels like: a love to leave loved ones for, a love to cross oceans for. But I'd like to believe, if I ever were to feel it, that I'd have the courage to seize it.

And if you didn't, I hope someday you will."

A Love Letter

Ever feel like being happy yet so troubled and confused at the same time? Well, I have been feeling that today. But the best thing about it is that there is an assurance that you will be ok in the end even though you cannot see that assurance yet. That is Faith I guess. God is continually building Faith and Patience in me. I wonder what He is up to.

I have been feeling the blues today after a conversation with a friend. I told him the latest news and couldn't help but feel sad because of the turn of events. Upon going home, I turned on my music and listened to Don Moen.

My heart is troubled. Though I am more sure now than ever, my heart still cant help it but be sad. I don't know what lies ahead. I don't know what's around the bend. I don't know the next chapter. All I know is that God is holding my hand and He will not let me go.

I opened my Bible and I saw this from Psalm 81:7,10
"You called in trouble and I delivered you; I answered you in the secret place of thunder, I proved you at the waters of Meribah. Open your mouth wide and I will fill it."

Despite what is happening, I still believe that Faith, Patience and Love are pouring in. I believe there is more and the best is yet to come.

I opened my Bible again and I chanced upon this page where a yellow green colored paper is folded. It has been a very long time since I saw this paper and I didn't recognize it immediately. But on reading the note I wrote on the back portion, my heart skipped a beat. The paper was made during the Love Conference and it contained God's Love Letter.

Taking the Leap

I never really thought I could do it but somehow I did.

I am not a dancer and would prefer it much better to sing than dance in front of an audience. But during our anniversary party, I performed the Dumendingan, a Subanen dance equivalent to the Tinikling of the Visayas. Only 3 women were to perform it and during the screening, our trainer asked if I could be one of the dancers. I did not immediately say yes. I tried dancing between the bamboo poles first before finally deciding.

What got me to decide on the affirmative was the thought that I'm probably not going to do something like this again in my lifetime. I will only be given this one chance and if I say no, I will never know if I could really do it. I hoped to God that when I am old and can't hardly walk anymore, I can look back at my younger years with a smile and not have "what ifs" and "if only" notions lingering in my mind.

That night, I breathed a small prayer for presence of mind seconds before we put our feet between the bamboo poles. I dreaded that the clickers might not start in unison and we become lost in the rhythm. But there was no need to fear for my prayers were answered and we ended our Khinlesung Dance wonderfully. The audience was amazed and we all got 10 points plus  very wonderful comments from the judges.

Healing Rain

I love the sound of the pouring rain outside my window; It makes for a good background music.

Rain - cleanses the body and soul from impurities, gives new life.

And like a withered tree that was brought to life by the rain, so was I finally healed from my "Period of Mourning" which lasted for 3 months.

I now came to terms with myself, stopped fighting my inward battles and finally surrendered regarding certain  matters close to my heart. I now realized that opening yourself to love does not make you weak. In fact, it is the boldest thing you will ever do. Yes, you will become vulnerable and therefore expose yourself to various emotions, but it is worth it. It's ok to feel pathetic because if you haven't, then you have not really loved at all. Love is freedom. And the sooner I accepted it, the sooner I was healed.

I also learned that love is a risk. Happiness is part of the package but so is also being hurt. It's part of the risk we all must undergo. If we won't risk, then we will never know and we will end up having so many hang -ups in life.

Lately, there have been some issues regarding a certain friend of mine. Now this will be the first time that I will express my opinion regarding this matter without anyone interrupting me or dictating me as to what and how I should feel and think.
